Marcos Ibáñez was a CCC senior during the 2021-22 school year. He was admitted to University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. He plans to major in Computer Science.
Congratulations, Marcos!
What do you look forward to the most about studying in the U.S. and at your university in particular?
I am looking forward to campus life, interacting with other American students and international students, and taking part in all of the extracurricular activities offered, such as Model United Nations, in addition to the small class sizes at the University of Rochester and the opportunity to do research and internships starting in my freshman year. I’m also excited about the open curriculum offered at the University of Rochester and the chance to shape my studies based on my current interests and the interests I acquire throughout my time at the university.
What is the best memory or experience you have had during your years as a CCC member?
The best experience for me was meeting with my mentor who had attended my top choice university. Not only did she help me to write essays but also to learn about college life in the US and what things I should think about when searching for colleges and completing my applications.
What has being part of the CCC meant for you? How has it helped you?
Being part of the CCC helped me stay focused and helped me approach the college search from a practical standpoint rather than just concentrating on reach schools with low acceptance rates. It was nice to be able to hear about my peers’ experiences and to learn from them.
What would you say to the students who are going to start being part of the CCC next year?
Start early and don’t set your hopes on just one school because the competition is tough and even the best students don’t always get accepted to their dream school. Show universities that you are interested in attending by reaching out to admissions, attending college fairs, visiting the website. Apply early action if possible, so you don’t have to wait so long for decisions. CCC offers great advice so attend all the sessions and do your homework to make the most of the CCC experience.
